It was never clear to me why I always heard that people had to go on low fat diet. Don’t let fuzzy logic lead you down the wrong path on this one. It’s not weight control; you need to adopt a low fat diet to stop using fuel which is gumming up your circulation system. If it clogs up, you die. A more technical way to say this is you are adopting a low fat diet to eliminate the problems associated with postprandial lipid surges; the “double trouble” thing.

The take away message about body fuel is that getting this variable correct will in large part dramatically impact how well you might reverse your current disease state and how long you may live. Please note that I am referring to this as body fuel versus food. There are fuels that you must stop using in your body machine because it’s gumming up the circulation system and there is fuel you must start using to help you get better fuel mileage and engine life. Certain additives need to be used now to help your self-repairing engine to heal some problem areas over the next 18-24 months.

The closest thing to an “UNDO” Function Key for cardiovascular heart disease is an intensive and consistent program focused on reversing the symptoms of the disease. If you have already developed such symptoms it is predictable that should you not substantially change behaviors you will die earlier than statistically appropriate for your cohort group. Doing nothing is not a good option. Doing anything recommended at any time in your life is helpful. If you were willing to do only one thing it would be to discontinue the use of tobacco products if you use them. Next in line would be understanding your lab test results and adjust whatever is needed to get them improved.

Yeah, you are reading this now searching for answers. If you are like the rest of us, it may be late at night and you are searching for information that will confirm your worst suspicions that you may be showing symptoms of heart disease.
In my case, I denied my problem and searched for over 2 years until I reached a point of crisis. I was lucky to receive proper intervention which saved my life. You also may be reading this now because you have already joined our “Cardiac Club”. You will be an active member of this club until the day you die. If you are smart, work hard on the problem and create a sustainable program I think you have cause to be optimistic about living an enjoyable normal life. That’s my mission in any case.
If the first symptom of your disease was an actual heart attack, Read the rest of this entry »

In the mid-1990’s I served as the Chief Executive Officer of Pentagon City Hospital which as the name suggests is adjacent to the Pentagon located in Arlington, Virginia. This is just on the opposite side of the Potomac River from Washington, DC. Although I served well after the event it was never far from my mind that my hospital was the receiving hospital for the fortunate survivors of an airline accident. On January 13, 1982, Air Florida Flight 90 crashed into Washington, DC’s 14th Street Bridge and fell into the Potomac River shortly after taking off. A total of 70 passengers and 4 crew died and four motorists on the bridge.
Air Crashes really make an impression on all of us and we remember them with vivid detail. It may be the randomness, the unfairness Read the rest of this entry »
